2021 Bookish Challenges & Goals – update

Hi and welcome to FromBelgiumWithBookLove where today I’d like to revisit my bookish challenges for this year!

Here’s where I’m at after almost three months:

The GoodReads Challenge:
69/200

(Ahead of schedule, yay!)

The Series Challenge:

Continue and finish the Dark Iceland Series by Ragnar Jónasson:
Snowblind
Nightblind

Blackout
Rupture
Whiteout
Winterkill

(Halfway through and taking a small break from Ragnar at the moment)

Continue and finish the Arc of a Scythe trilogy by Neal Shusterman:
Scythe
Thunderhead
The Toll

(Finished and enjoyed it very much!)

Continue the Shardlake Series by C.J. Sansom:
Dissolution
Dark Fire

Sovereign
Revelation
Heartstone
Lamentation
Tombland

(I’m loving this series more than I ever could have imagined and each book is better than the last!)

The Stephen King Challenge: Read at least 5 Stephen King novels: 3/5
The Shining
The Colorado Kid
Los Ojos del Dragón (The Eyes of the Dragon)

(One I loved, one that wasn’t for me, and one that I adored: definitely a challenge I’m having fun with)

The Agatha Christie Challenge: Read at least 5 Agatha Christie novels: 3/5
Murder at the Vicarage (Miss Marple 1)
The Thirteen Problems (Miss Marple 2)
The Body in the Library (Miss Marple 3)

(Another challenge that I’m enjoying very much!)

The Spanish Challenge: Read at least 10 Spanish books: 3/10
República luminosa, Andrés Barba
Chicas Muertas, Selva Almada
Los Ojos del Dragón (The Eyes of the Dragon), Stephen King

(No one said I couldn’t kill two birds with one stone so hurrah for King 😁 I don’t really like that my favourite Spanish read so far was a translation though, I’m still trying to find the right Spanish / Latin American authors for me. Any suggestions, let me know!)

The Non-Fiction Challenge: Read the 3 non-fiction books on my physical TBR and at least 1 from my digital TBR: 1/3 – 3/1
Fire Cannot Kill a Dragon, James Hibberd
The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck, Sarah Knight
Chicas Muertas, Selva Almada
I 💜 Happy Cats, Anneleen Bru

(I hadn’t even realised Chicas Muertas is non-fiction, I thought it was a thriller when I picked it up. This is more non-fiction than I’ve read in ages!)

The Classics Challenge: Read at least 4 classics / modern classics, including a Jane Austen and a Shakespeare: 4/4
My Cousin Rachel, Daphne du Maurier
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll
Macbeth, William Shakespeare
Mansfield Park, Jane Austen

(Finished but I have more classics on my TBR that I hope to get to and definitely want to give Shakespeare and Jane Austen another go. I was a fan of Daphne du Maurier’s work already and I really want to read some more by her.)

The FairyLoot Challenge: Read at least 10 FairyLoot novels, at least 4 of which from 2019-2020: 3/10 – 2/4
Viper, Bex Hogan
These Violent Delights, Chloe Gong
A Vow So Bold and Deadly, Brigid Kemmerer

(Pretty much on schedule and enjoying this challenge)

Well, if I’ve proven one thing to myself, it’s that I get a lot more accomplished when I set myself a clear challenge and keep record of it 😂 Thanks for joining me today and happy reading!
